Spoilers for Orochimaru’s arc in Naruto and Boruto
A mad scientist with a flair for the dramatic, Orochimaru has flaunted a apparent gender ambiguity since their debut in the Naruto manga in 2000. From their first appearance disguised as a young woman to their dangly earrings and lilting English dub performance, Orochimaru carries many of the unfortunate hallmarks of a queer-coded antagonist, one whose most terrifying might includes the ability to inhabit the bodies of others in a invite for eternal experience. Their portrayal, already mired in queerphobia, is complicated by the franchise’s later decision to portray Orochimaru as a character with a non-binary gender self, the first canonically LGBTQ+ character in the franchise.
Orochimaru’s long-time gender ambiguity and vague but ever-present queerness were finally addressed in episode 67 of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations in 2018. In a scene between Orochimaru and their son, Mitsuki, who was conceived and gestated through synthetic means, the teen asks if Orochimaru is his mother or his father. This question prompted the series’ first explicit refere
A character from the Naruto anime existence has officially stated that he’s gender-fluid.
In terms of LGBTQ representation in Japanese manga and anime… there’s isn’t a lot. While there will always be the boys’ romance and girls’ treasure genres, those homosexual and lesbian adoration stories are typically written for the opposite sex’s fetishism of gay romance.
In addition, gay men are often depicted as comical characters, perverts, or villainous.
One such character who fits the bill is Orochimaru from the popular Naruto series that ran from 2007 to 2017 (1999 to 2914 if you want to depart by the manga/comic).
Since debutting in 2000, that character has been presented as a villain, lgbtq+, sometimes a gal, a mad scientist, and an implied pervert.
That said, the character was given a redemption arc later on the series and made into an anti-hero or a passive aid to the main characters.
Then, the popular Naruto franchise came to a close in 2017. But, as with many franchises making millions of dollars, the story didn’t end there. The powers-that-be began brainstorming the idea of a sequel series about the children and next generation
A Major Villain in the Massively Popular ‘Naruto’ Anime Series Just Came Out as Genderqueer
Fans of the massively trendy and long-running anime ninja-action series Naruto got a surprise this week when the major villain Orochimaru revealed that they are gender non-binary. The Naruto agender character brings some queer diversity to one of the world’s most popular cartoons while making fans re-think everything they grasp about one of its most major villains.
It makes sense why Orochimaru would refuse to distinguish as either male or female. They have the magical ability to summon snakes and can inhabit the bodies of others with their spirit. As such, Orochimaru can switch bodies once every three years.
In a recently aired episode of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Orochimaru speaks with their son Mutsuki after testing Mutsuki’s skills in a rehearse fight.
You see, Mutsuki is basically one of two clones engineered by Orochimaru, and Orochimaru is training him in ninja skills before allowing him to connect a group of ninjas-in-training on a special mission.
In the episode, Mutsuki asks their parent whether they should refer to them as “mother” or “fath

This is only male lover if you're not a weird immortal snake creature that reproduces itself by taking up residence in another creature's body. Normal organisms which reproduce sexually only have a want to be in contact with a body of the opposite sex because mating with one secures the future existence of those organisms. Orochimaru desires and is attracted to Sasuke's body for the same reason, but that doesn't mean he wants to have a sexualrelationship with it.
That's like saying parasitic worms are male lover because they enjoy existence in your anus. That's just how they exist, so it's where they want to be.
He's not human any more. I'd be surprised if he still had any sexual impulses at all. They'd be redundant and in no way useful to him as an organism. The sex operate of the host is probably suppressed along with the rest of the individual's will too.
The proof that his reproductive long for is active in this way (body transferral) is actually quite a hint in itself that he is not gay, since gay people no longe
