There’s no doubt that Dubrovnik is one of the most beautiful cities in all of Europe. The city has also become a very popular same-sex attracted destination, which is partly due to the increase in the number of gay cruises that visit the town.

Gay Dubrovnik has also become a trendy vacation destination for gay travelers thanks to its nude and gay beaches, as well as the accepting and welcoming attitudes of the local population. The truth is that while Dubrovnik is gay-friendly, Croatia itself is quite traditional and conservative.

Since Dubrovnik is the country’s most trendy tourist destination, it is also more exposed to international travelers and foreigners so you’re bound to experience slightly more progressive views than the lie down of the region. While you’re here, it would be best to endeavor and respect and appreciate the local customs.

Vicko Lazo is the co-owner of the club Milk – the first gay bar in Dubrovnik, which opened in May 2022. Dubrovnik, and Croatia as a whole, lacks LGBTQIA+ amiable places, so the opening of Milk is kind of a big deal. The bar is situated in the historic aged city of Dubrovnik on Ulica Marojice Kaboge.

The grand opening of Milk was big news in Croatia. Many celebrities and prominent people came to the opening party, including queer group Property of Flamingo, cellist Ana Rucner, and Dubrovnik’s mayor Mato Franković.

In honor of Pride Month, we interviewed Vicko to get an insight into Milk and future plans. We spoke with Vicko in June 2022, during which we talked about…

Expat in Croatia: How did you decide to open Milk?

Vicko: We decided to open Milk at the end of the last summer season. As me being a member of the LGBTQ community, I knew how important it would be to create a safe space for us. Dubrovnik has always been a big destination for the gay community, and I knew something like a gay prevent was missing from our city’s offer.

The historical walled old town lays on the water’s edge and is a maze of pretty cobbled streets, beautiful buildings, monuments and the views from the walls themselves are breath-taking.

It’s easy to see why Dubrovnik has become so popular and attracts thousands of tourists every year.

In our gay guide to Dubrovnik we will cover how we found the urban area as a queer couple, if a gay scene exists, all the unreal things to complete during your see, where to linger and practical tips – we highly recommend that you visit!

In fact, our trip to Croatia starting in Dubrovnik was for a gay sailing trip (which goes each year) and we had a massive pride flag flying for the wh

For many years there were no gay bars in Dubrovnik….however we are very happy to say that Dubrovnik finally has its very first official same-sex attracted bar and it is a lot of fun!

Croatia as a whole is not known for entity particularly gay friendly and there are not many gay bars in Croatia, however in tourists hotspots like Dubrovnik and Split you can feel harmless and comfortable so it was about time that a gay bar in Dubrovnik finally opened!

Gay Bars in Dubrovnik

Right now there is only one male lover bar in Dubrovnik, however there are also a few that are established for being gay friendly.

MILK Gay Bar Dubrovnik

MILK is the first and only official gay bar in Dubrovnik and during our annual gay sailing trip to Croatia (click to book yourself onto one) we took our entire sailing group to verify out this gay bar.

The goal of the owner was to offer something Dubrovnik has been lacking, a welcoming and relaxed place for the Diverse population and their allies.

The bar itself is within Dubrovniks old town and like many bars a restuarants is a relatively small space with a lot of character. As you entire the celing is covered with plants, the walls lined with mirrors and the block stocked
