A Guide to Pride Weekend on Pensacola Beach
Walking along that narrow path of the beach the people you encounter are the real attractions. Many of the younger, leaner, buffer guys are in Speedos – many brightly colored – and some with attendant feather boas and exaggeratedly big sunglasses. Some of the girls are in skimpy two-pieces. The creativity of some tattoos is really on present when folks are wearing so little.
You may also encounter a drag queen or two out there. What does a performative queen wear to the beach? Something fabulous, of course!
Like at Mardi Gras, it’s not uncommon for people to stop the more flamboyant on the beach and ask to have their photos taken with them. And, appreciate at Mardi Gras, most of the ones who are done up are happy to oblige. They work hard to construct themselves look so over-the-top.

Pensacola Self-acceptance starts in May, with the last weekend of the month kicking things off with a beach party for the LGBTQ collective. Read on to learn more about Pensacola Pride, plus where you can go and what you can perform to celebrate Lgbtq+ fest month.
The LGBTQ Collective In Pensacola
While LGBTQ people have lived in Pensacola successfully before the 1950s, the local lgbtq+ movement is credited to Ray and Henry Hillyer who started the Emma Jones Society. This gay book club was active in the 60s, passing around gay literature and reading materials that were deemed “pornographic”. The Hillyers also held gatherings around the 4th of July to reinforce the notion that gays and lesbians were Americans, too.
Now, decades later, the events grab place around Memorial Day. In evidence, the Pensacola Memorial Day beach party is one of the biggest events in the Pensacola LGBTQ season.

Pride month is celebrated in June, but the LGBTQ celebration will have an early start in Pensacola Beach, Florida, this weekend. The fun-filled weekend is known for drag queens, party music and Jell-O shots.
Pride in Pensacola has more than just raves and Speedos. From wet T-shirt contests to a queer vendors market, there is something for everyone at Pensacola Pride this year. Here’s some of the most popping events for you to get the most out of Pride 2024.
Memorial Weekend Pensacola
Memorial Weekend Pensacola will usher in Self-acceptance month with multiple beach parties May 23-27. The celebration will mark the event's 30th anniversary. With a line-up of DJs such as Tom Stephan and Karsten Sollors, the music will be rolling all weekend. Notable drag queen Trixie Mattel will also be DJing May 25. Tickets for individual days vary from $25-$80. VIP weekend and parking passes range from $85-$430.
